Description

Sangre de Drago – 100 % pure dragon's blood tree sap from Croton lechleri

Freshly harvested, natural latex of the Amazonian tree Croton lechleri, undiluted and unheated: just pure, deep red tree sap. Straight from sustainable wild harvesting, in cooperation with local communities in the Brazilian rainforest around Lábrea in the state of Amazonas.

Important legal notice: in the EU this sap is sold as a natural raw material – not as a food, cosmetic or medicinal product. The information below describes traditional use in South America and natural-history background – without any recommendation for use.

🌿 What is Sangre de Drago?

It is the latex of the tree Croton lechleri – when the bark is scored, a dark red, milky sap emerges that is traditionally called „dragon's blood“. The sap contains proanthocyanidins (OPC), taspine and other bioactive polyphenols, among other compounds, which have been valued in South America for centuries. Important: this is not resin from other plants such as Dracaena or Pterocarpus – it is exclusively the living plant sap of this Amazonian tree.

💬 How is Sangre de Drago traditionally used in South America?

The latex of Croton lechleri has been used in many ways in the Amazon for generations. This information serves solely as factual documentation of cultural and ethnobotanical practices from South America.

In the folk tradition of the Amazon region the sap is used in various contexts – externally as well as, historically, internally. Precise forms of use are documented in the ethnobotanical literature.

Note: in the EU Sangre de Drago is not approved for medical or internal use. We give no recommendation whatsoever for the use of this raw material.

🔬 What does science say?

Sangre de Drago contains, among other compounds:

  • OPC (proanthocyanidins) – natural polyphenols with astringent properties.
  • Taspine – an alkaloid that is the subject of research.
  • Dimethylcedrusin – a natural compound found in the latex of Croton lechleri.

An isolated component of the sap (crofelemer) has been approved as a medicine in the USA. That underlines the scientific interest in this tree sap. No direct health promises for this raw material can be derived from these constituents, however.

📦 Processing, storage & analysis

After wild harvesting in the Amazon the sap was mechanically filtered in small batches, bottled in amber glass and kept refrigerated. No alcohol, no preservatives, no heat.

Because this is a living natural product, natural phase separation or slight sedimentation can occur. Please shake well before use.

A microbiological and chemical laboratory analysis (including taspine, water activity, heavy metals, PAHs and more) is under way – results will be published on this product page shortly.

⚠️ Notes & legal information
